Manly

Project Description

Natural Materials & Light

This project consisted of the demolition of an existing beach cottage and the construction of a new luxury home built within the trees overlooking Manly beach.

With a mixture of natural materials and an abundance of glazing gives it a light and coastal modern feel. Access to the house is by a timber bridge leading from the street and garage which then leads through to the main living areas that has a high seemingly floating roof with a large cantilever over the rear upper deck.

A spa off the lower level rumpus room was also included as part of the project which is cleverly covered by a sliding deck lid so that when not in use there are more external entertaining areas.

This home incorporates rain water tanks for irrigation, solar electricity panels with provision for future battery storage, instantaneous gas hot water systems, energy efficient pool equipment on timers to utilise solar catchment and insulation to all cavities to prevent/maintain solar heat gain and loss.
